COVID-19 Gene Research

We are a global open host genome structural variation consortium for the COVID-19 response. The COVID-19 (SARS-CoV2) pandemic has been declared a global emergency by the WHO. This disease is affecting not only the elderly and high-risk individuals with pre-existing conditions, but also affecting young adults severely and causing mortality in both young and elderly patients. This variation in manifestation of the disease leads to the notion that the host genome’s immune response will play a role in SARS-CoV2 disease susceptibility or resistance.

Meetings

The consortium convenes online weekly starting June 10. Appointments with conference details are emailed to members in advance. Membership is intended for organizations who intend to provide data and or analytical support. Click the link below to register.

Findings

Whole genome optical mapping was performed on genomic DNA from COVID-19 patients. Structural variation analysis was performed in Bionano Access software for genome-wide assessment of deletions, duplications, insertions, inversions and balanced translocations. Besides genome wide assessment, analysis was also focused on the host immune response genes implicated in COVID-19 infection and or response.
